HSA Graduation BBQ

June 2th
18:00
MIT Sailing Pavilion (51)

The Graduation BBQ is an event held every year right after Commencement to congratulate and praise students of Greek origin graduating. That day is one to be remembered from the students and their families. So, each year the Hellenic Students’ Association tries its best to make this day unique for the Greek origin graduates and make their parents feel like home by organizing an event with traditional Greek delicacies and give a Taste of Greece to all of our labmates and friends across the Institute. We create an environment where parents get to meet all the students, interact with other parents and generally have a day full of relaxation, enjoyment and good food. The event is open to all MIT students and it is publicized across the campus with posters and emails. So, every fan of Greek cuisine can come and celebrate with us the graduation of our members.

Clean Monday

03/14/2016
4-7pm
Briggs Field A-B (Rain location 4-237)

Clean Monday is the first day of Great Lent in the Eastern Orthodox Christian Church. It is a movable feast that occurs at the beginning of the 7th week before Orthodox Easter Sunday. Clean Monday is a public holiday in Greece and Cyprus, where it is celebrated with outdoor excursions, the consumption of shellfish and other fasting food, a special kind of azyme bread, baked only on that day, named "lagana" and the widespread custom of flying kites. This year and for the first we plan on having traditional Greek treats made specifically for Clean Monday and also, weather permitting, setting up and flying kites at Briggs Field as traditionally done in Greece. All MIT students are welcome to come and learn more about our culture, what Clean Monday exactly is and how it prepares us for the Easter, arguably the biggest holiday in the Orthodox Church.
