Clean Monday

02/27/2017
3-6pm
4-163 and Killian Court

Clean Monday is the first day of Great Lent in the Eastern Orthodox Christian Church. It is a movable feast that occurs at the beginning of the 7th week before Orthodox Easter Sunday. Clean Monday is a public holiday in Greece and Cyprus, where it is celebrated with outdoor excursions, the consumption of shellfish and other fasting food, a special kind of azyme bread, baked only on that day, named "lagana" and the widespread custom of flying kites. This year and for the first we plan on having traditional Greek treats made specifically for Clean Monday and also, weather permitting, setting up and flying kites at Killian Court as traditionally done in Greece. All MIT students are welcome to come and learn more about our culture, what Clean Monday exactly is and how it prepares us for the Easter, arguably the biggest holiday in the Orthodox Church.

Constitution Amendment
-------------------------------------
As the Hellenic Students’ Association sails through decades of MIT life, it evolves, grows and modernizes. The executive committee therefore deemed necessary that it is time to amend the Association’s Constitution, as its current form (http://web.mit.edu/hellenic/Constitution03.pdf) was shaped in February 2003, 14 years ago!

The HSA executive committee therefore hereby calls a General Assembly meeting on Monday, Feb 13, 5pm at MIT classroom 4-237 to vote for the proposed Constitution amendments. (Note that this General Assembly will occur during our Vassilopita cutting event!) The proposed amended Constitution can be found here.

As this is a very critical matter of the Association, we urge especially all MIT student and cross-registered student members to attend and vote! All other HSA members are also cordially invited to our Vassilopita cutting event and General Assembly meeting, but unfortunately cannot vote (although amendments may partly change this in the future…).
